2019 Australia Day Aquathon: Making a splash for our local community

There’s just a few days left until this year’s Australia Day Aquathon, and we are ecstatic to be a sponsor once again. The Aquathon is all about fostering community and showcasing the wonderful Illawarra region we’re lucky enough to call home so when it came time to decide whether or not we wanted to be a part of it again, it was a no brainer.

The Aquathon takes place along Wollongong’s stunning Foreshore and there’s something for everyone – whether it’s the long 900m swim and 7km run to the 4km walk, run, roll. Partake as an individual or as a team, the Aquathon is open to all ages, and abilities.

As with all the community events here in the Illawarra, preparation is everything with regulars encouraging friends, family and colleagues to take part or simply train alongside them. For this year’s Aquathon, there are not only preparation guides, but also tips from the best in the business – athletes and coaches as well as a YouTube channel full of videos. If volunteering is more your style, the Aquathon couldn’t happen without the small army of volunteers who give up their time to make sure everything runs smoothly and everyone is safe and happy.

The Australia Day Aquathon has now been running for 20 years and is an essential part of our local community, fundraising for our local not-for-profits and charities. However you can participate, we urge you to swim, walk or run for the charity of your choice or donate during the online entry, with all donations going straight to charity. What’s more, as a friend of SOTO you can get a 25% discount on the entry fee using the code word SOTO .

So before you set up the barbie and crack open a tinnie this Australia Day, come down to the Foreshore and be a part of your community.

Registration closes on Friday 25 January at 12 noon. For more information on the 2019 Aquathon click here.
